HOW CAP CAME ABOUT

During CAFTA’s 2018 Annual Fundraising season, CAFTA’s Directors decided to change the format of their  8th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser to something more appropriate to their mission of spreading good will, education and understanding through the Arts. They came up with the idea to create CT ART PRIZE.
CAFTA has helped hundreds of students financially as well as scholastically by bringing Arts and Culture studies to the underserved and financially challenged families in the community who otherwise would not have those opportunities. CAFTA has raised over $500,000 in scholarships for students and for other non-profit organizations over the past 9 years.
So, in the summer of 2018, Teresa and John Sullivan, Co-Founding Directors of CAFTA approached Owen Quinn, Executive Director of The United Way of Northwest Connecticut with the idea of spreading good will through the arts by giving prizes and scholarship to other worthy charities. This began with Celebrities Paint For A Cause whereby local celebrities, who are not usually known for their art ability but are well-known for the other very talented and wonderful things they do in the community, were asked to paint a 12”x12” canvas that would be auctioned off at the Fundraiser Preview Party.. The winner of The Peoples' Choice Award was given $1000 to donate to their favorite charity. It was all in good fun and at the same time help CAFTA and The United Way of Northwest Ct raise funds to help 63,000+ needy, underserved, and underprivileged children, adults and families in Northwest Connecticut.

CT ART PRIZE was born!!!

This year, in addition to our Celebrities Paint For A Cause prize of $1000 to be awarded to the Peoples’ Choice Winner, (to be donated to their favorite charity). We are expanding the prizes to include a $500 prize to The Peoples’ Choice  Art Teacher prize winner and $500 to The Peoples’ Choice Student (grades Pre K-12) prize winner. (The teachers and students get to keep their prize money for themselves!)

CT ART PRIZE’s goal  is to make this a global effort that helps spread good will through a better understanding of community and the important role the arts play in creating a better place to live and work.
