CT ART PRIZE

What Is CAP?
CT ART PRIZE (CAP)
CAP (CT ART PRIZE) is a cultural initiative created by Connecticut Academy For The Arts (CAFTA)  to celebrate the arts and to bring communities together to celebrate the arts and to award prizes and scholarships to a wide range of artists, teachers and students in visual, performing and literary arts, and to benefit other deserving charities with monetary assistance through the arts.
CAP began in 2018 in Torrington, in Northwest Connecticut. That location was chosen because of it’s desirable proximity in the Litchfield Hills, (approximately 2 hours from NYC and 2 hours from Boston), which provides easy access to over 30 million people.

Who/What Benefits From CAP?

Ct Art Prize directly benefits a multitude of individuals and organizations throughout the region and potentially beyond. The "Celebrity" artist who receives the highest number of votes cast by the general public on the night of the event, will be awarded in his/her name a $1000.00 check payable to his/her favorite charity. Likewise, the public vote winning Art Teacher will be awarded a $500.00 check,
which is his/hers to keep, as is the vote-winning Art Student. The United Way of NWCT and
Connecticut Academy For The Arts (CAFTA) split the proceeds after all expenses and awards are disbursed.
More importantly, the micropolitan region surrounding the City of Torrington benefits from an inclusive event that gives a new identity to the region as a center for artistic collaboration and innovation. Criss-cross collaboration amongst the
cultural "silos" benefits everyone and leads to the cross-fertilization of ideas that create new opportunities.

CAP1 Innaugural Event 2018

CAPs inaugural event, CAP 1, was in November 2018. CAFTA partnered with United Way of NorthWest Ct (UWNWC) to award a $1000 prize to a local celebrity for their favorite charity. The prize was determined by popular choice votes during the Preview Party. Prior to the auction, local elected officials and celebrities came together at three separate paint parties to create 12 x 12 canvases to be auctioned at the preview party and wine tasting.
